The Importance of a Doula

Birth is not only a physical experience, but an emotional one, and having consistent, trusted support throughout labor can make a meaningful difference. A doula provides continuous, one-on-one care focused entirely on supporting you and your partner through the birth process. From offering encouragement and reassurance to helping with breathing, positioning, movement, relaxation, and comfort measures, your doula remains by your side as labor unfolds. She can also help your partner feel more confident and involved by offering guidance on how to best support you. While your midwife's primary responsibility is monitoring the health and well-being of you and your baby, your doula is able to focus on your comfort, emotional needs, and overall experience. Together, your midwife, doula, and chosen support people can create a strong circle of care around you, helping you feel safe, supported, and confident as you welcome your baby.

Wholistically Reformed Birth Services highly recommends hiring a doula as part of your birth team! Here are some doulas that I have personally vetted and worked with, and would recommend:

"When a woman is in labor, she has pain because her time has come. But when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the suffering because of the joy that a human being has been born into the world."

    John 16:21
